It’s now time for everyone to call Gurgaon as Gurugram. This modern city in Haryana has got a new name – Gurugram. According to reports, this was a long pending demand or decision of the municipal corporation.
It is believed that in the ancient time, the village was given to Guru Dronacharya as Gurudakshina from Pandavas (his students).
Hence, it was named as Gurugram. As per sources, this name got distorted to Gurgaon with passing time. This is regarded as the reason to change the name of Gurgaon. It is also said that here, Guru Dronacharya and his wife Mata Sheetla resided in an ashram.
Further, it is also said that Mewat, the neighbouring district of Gurgaon, might also be renamed as Nuh. Mewat basically, is not a town; rather, it is cultural and geographical unit beyond the state of Haryana.
