The FMCG major HUL (Hindustan Unilever Limited) has decided to withdraw its Chinese range of instant noodles ‘Knorr’ because of its pending approval from FSSAI, the central food safety regulator.

HUL decided to withdraw its ‘Knorr’ instant noodles after the reports came that the noodles offered by Hindustan Unilever may come under the scanner of FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) as the product was not approved yet.

The brand ceased the production of instant noodles, until it gets approval from FSSAI.

The FSSAI issued an order to test more brands of pastas, noodles and macaroni. It has approved 33 items in these categories that are manufactured by 7 companies. HUL’s ‘Knorr’ instant noodles did not feature in the list.

HUL said it had already submitted an application for product approval for the Knorr instant noodles in February 2015 and the same was pending approval.

Last week, FSSAI banned 9 variations of Maggi declaring them “unsafe and hazardous” for human consumption as it contained high levels of lead and monosodium glutamate (MSG) in the taste enhancer.

Nestle India also declared withdrawal of its product from the market.
