  • Psychological Abuse More Dangerous Than Domestic Violence: Report

Reports have found that kids’ health is more affected by psychological abuse among parents than domestic violence.

The report highlighted proofs of exposure to psychological abuse, which consists of intimidation, manipulation and control, isolation and name-calling. It showed a decrease in the level of satisfaction among young people, as far as social support is concerned.

The researchers also found out the behavior of kids, when they are exposed to high level of domestic violence. It had a protective effect in terms of satisfaction among young people, with social support.

According to Catherine Naughton from the Ireland University of Limerick, children who have been exposed to both the cases, i.e. psychological domestic abuse and physical violence are seen to more happy with the social support. She adds that when the psychological domestic abuse happens alone, it turns out to be the most damaging effect, as people become unable to speak anything about it.

The team examined 465 young adults within the age group of 17 to 25 years of age. They reported about two types of domestic abuse – one is physical (kicking, punching, hitting etc.) and the other is psychological (name-calling, arguing, isolating etc.).

The reports show that there is an adverse impact on the psychological well-being of kids, when they are exposed to psychological dimension of abuse in their home.
