  • UP Voters’ List to Be Printed In Urdu for the Assembly Elections

As per the State Election Commission, the Uttar Pradesh electoral rolls will be published in Urdu for the upcoming UP assembly polls. There are almost 46 constituencies and 22 districts in Uttar Pradesh, where the next month Assembly Elections would be held. Majority of these districts have large population of Muslim people. Approximately 30% of the Muslim voters (living in UP) may get benefit from this move.

This is for the first time that such a decision has been taken – to print the voters’ list in Urdu language. So, far these lists were published in Hindi language and English language. The Bareilly District Magistrate says that as per the decision of SEC, two constituencies (viz. City and Cantonment) will get the voters’ list printed in Urdu as well. However, in any kind of dispute arises, the rolls printed in Hindi would be considered as authentic.

Each of the recognized political parties would be provided with a copy of Urdu electoral rolls, according to Assistant election officer Bareilly. Not just this, a PDF version may also be uploaded on UP CEO website.

Lucknow, Aligarh, Bijnore, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Meerut, Rampur, Amroha, Sambhal and Kanpur – these are some of the districts where the electoral rolls would be provided in Urdu as well.

Furthermore, the SEC is making an effort to ensure that the voting centers will be deployed with a staff that understands Urdu. Through such an effort, the voters will be guided in a proper manner and would be able to get the required information.
