The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finally started his travel to 5 Central Asian countries and Russia in order to boost strategic, energy and economic ties. According to reports, the travel is expected to start from July 6 to 13 and also he would attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the summits of BRICS.
The five central Asian countries that Modi will travel to are: Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. He will also travel to Russia where he is supposed to attend the six-nation (SCO) Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Ufa, Russia and the summits of BRICS, i.e. (Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa).
With a view to expand India-Uzbekistan ties, the prime minister is quite confident that his first visit to Uzbekistan would definitely be worth rewarding, in terms of boosting up the ties.
The SCO Summit might help India in getting the membership of the 6-nation grouping of Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. This is poised to be the major highlight of the visit.
The backbone of attending the BRICS Summit would be to emphasize on upgrading cooperation in economic area together with increasing the possibility of trade in local currency.
The summit might look at the possibility to initiate credit facility in local currency. KV Kamath, a noted Indian banker is the first head of the New Development Bank of BRICS.
Modi will scrutinize post-2014 situation in Afghanistan and effective ways to deal with terrorism and extremism.

The Confederation of Indian Industry termed this visit as an indicator to revitalize ancient links with the region. It also estimated that trade with these 5 Central Asian countries could grow manifold from USD 1.4 billion currently.
The CII further recommended that the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project should be highly prioritized, along with the energy sector as Kazakhstan is a considerable oil producer and the other countries have estimated large reserves of natural gas.
